Rolls Royce’s Turkish CEO lays off 2,500 people

Layoffs begin at the British engineering company Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce announced it will lay off between 2,000 and 2,500 employees worldwide as part of its new chief executive’s cost-cutting measures.

The layoffs were the first major move by Tufan Erginbilgiç, who took over as CEO in January.

THERE ARE 42 THOUSAND EMPLOYEES

Rolls-Royce has a total of 42 thousand employees around the world. The company was hit hard by the pandemic, which paralyzed air travel for months.

Erginbilgiç, a former executive at oil giant BP, told employees the company’s performance was “unsustainable” when he took over Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce, which did not provide details on where the layoffs would occur, said the planned changes would eliminate similar positions and provide profitability.
