Private public buses introduce 4-day limit for free riders
Private public bus traders have decided to serve citizens who benefit from free public transportation only 4 days a month throughout Turkey.
Kurtuluş Kara, President of the Association of Public Private Bus Cooperatives, said today in his statement on the issue that they will not transport passengers after the fourth day and will direct them to public vehicles.
Stating that they are risking everything, Kara stated that they have to transport citizens who are legally required to be transported for free, but if they continue to do so they will not be able to buy fuel and that the municipalities can initiate criminal proceedings against them.
THEY WILL TAKE THEM IN THE FIRST 4 DAYS
Yesterday, Ercan Soydaş, President of the Public Private Bus Association (TÖHOB), announced that all private public buses in Turkey will carry passengers for free only between the 1st and 4th of each month.
Soydaş stated that families of martyrs and veterans, members of the police and the press can always benefit from free transportation, while the rest cannot.
Many people, such as students with a pass, disabled people, people between 62 and 64 years old and people over 65 years old, traveled on the buses for free. However, last month, Ankara’s private public buses did not allow eligible people to travel for free and bus drivers stepped back as a result of the municipality’s criminal actions.
