Inflation in Germany is at its lowest level since the war

Final data announced in Germany confirmed that inflation fell to 4.5 percent, its lowest level since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced the final data on the price increase for September.

Consequently, annual inflation in the country, which was 6.1 percent in August, decreased to 4.5 percent in September, in line with expectations. Inflation rose 0.3 percent monthly.

The final data confirmed previously published preliminary data. It should be noted that annual inflation decreased for 3 consecutive months.

Think about it; It was claimed that the aid package initiated by the government for transport costs due to the war between Russia and Ukraine ended in September last year and was due to the base effect.

The EU-compliant CPI increased in September by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month and by 4.3 percent year-on-year.

While food prices rose 7.5 percent annually in September, energy product prices rose an average of 1 percent.

Excluding energy prices, annual inflation in Germany was 5 percent in March.

‘INFLATION IS STILL HIGH’

In her assessment of the issue, Destatis president Ruth Brand said: “The inflation rate has fallen to its lowest level since the start of the war in Ukraine. But it’s still high. “Consumers continue to feel the high food prices.” he said.

Germany’s core inflation rate, calculated excluding food and energy, fell from 5.5 percent in August to 4.6 percent in September.

Analysts said easing core inflation in Germany would be a relief to European Central Bank (ECB) authorities, who in recent months have been more concerned about underlying inflation pressures than headline inflation.

Meanwhile, inflation across the eurozone was below expectations, at 4.3 percent in September. (AA)
