The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the labor force statistics for August 2023.
According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey; The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 56 thousand people in August 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 223 thousand people.
The unemployment rate decreased 0.2 points to 9.2 percent.
The unemployment rate was estimated to be 7.5 percent for men and 12.6 percent for women.
THE EMPLOYMENT RATE HAS NOT CHANGED
The number of employed people increased by one thousand people in August 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 31 million 686 thousand people, and the employment rate remained unchanged at 48.4 percent. This rate was 65.6 percent for men and 31.5 percent for women.
The labor force decreased by 55 thousand people in August 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 34 million 909 thousand people, and the labor participation rate decreased 0.1 point to 53.3 percent. While the labor force participation rate was 70.9 percent for men, it was 36 percent for women.
The unemployment rate among the young population, which includes the age group of 15 to 24 years, was 17.2 percent, with a decrease of 0.7 points compared to the previous month. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated at 14.2 percent for men and 22.7 percent for women.
The idle labor rate increased 0.4 points
The real average weekly working day of those who were employed during the reference period, corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, decreased 1.1 hours compared to the previous month and reached 43.3 hours in August 2023.
The idle labor rate, composed of underemployment due to insufficient hours, potential labor and the unemployed, reached 23 percent in August 2023, an increase of 0.4 points compared to the previous month .
While the integrated rate of underemployment due to insufficient hours and unemployed was 15.3 percent, the integrated rate of unemployed and potential labor force was estimated at 17.5 percent.
