Chevron workers to strike for second time next week
Unions in Australia announced that workers at Chevron’s two liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in the country will begin striking again next week.
The union representative, which is a combination of the two unions, announced that the official strike notice at Chevron’s Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities, which account for approximately 6 percent of global LNG production, was filed by the Offshore Alliance .
Chevron did not confirm whether notice of the strike had been received.
THE WORKERS HAD VOTED FOR THE RESTITUTION OF THE STRIKE
The Offshore Alliance ended its strike in late September after the union and Chevron accepted the mediator’s recommendations on wages and conditions at the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities, but the unions said last week that Chevron had not complied with the agreement.
Workers at Chevron’s two LNG facilities in Australia voted on October 6 to restart strikes.
HOW DID IT AFFECT PRICES?
Markets have so far had mixed reactions to a new strike, as weeks of strikes in September did not disrupt LNG shipments.
Natural gas prices in Europe rose, but spot LNG prices in Asia fell from a 7-month high as demand remained weak. (REUTERS)
