China began its export invasion

While the machinery and equipment sector, which received an investment of 313 billion dollars in 3 years in the post-pandemic period, began to return from the top, it was observed that China, which began to add quality to price competition, began a serious export invasion in this field. While it was noted that China had begun to acquire companies in the machinery sector, especially in Europe, and that this was creating a risk for Turkey, representatives of the sector noted that the concerns of Turkish companies on this issue began to pour in. “as rain”. .

WORRIES ARE LIKE RAIN

Adnan Dalgakıran, president of the Turkish Machinery Federation (MAKFED), stated that the real sector that will take Turkey’s current account deficit to a completely different level by searching for oil and natural gas in its seas and lands is machinery, and that the sector plays a driving role in the economy. Noting that Turkey gained momentum in both exports and domestic investments after high freight prices and China’s closure during the pandemic period, Dalgakıran said: “China has seriously started a major export invasion in the world. This momentum continues by increasing its quality. Concerns fall like rain from machinery companies. “When we compare a Chinese machinist with a Turkish machinist, they use 25 to 30 percent more affordable sheet metal,” he says.

Dalgakıran pointed out that there was a cyclical situation in the supply chain during the pandemic and stated that when it disappeared, export figures entered a difficult period. Drawing attention to China’s influence in the sector, Mehmet Ağrikli, vice president of the Machinery and Spare Parts Exporters Association, stated that China makes sales through forward sales and open account channels and said: “They also gave a discount of 15 percent. Here we are completely unprotected. installment sale
“They’re doing it,” he said.

Engineers go to defense for double the salary

Mehmet Ağrikli, Vice President of the Machinery and Spare Parts Exporters Association, stated that brain drain is also experienced among mechanical engineers and stated that European companies, which first targeted companies in the defense industry, are now attracting qualified employees. from the private sector. Ağrikli said that employees moved from the private sector to the public and defense industry companies and the salary range doubled.

Investment in machinery and equipment increased 65 percent in 3 years

Providing information on the export and investment performance of the sector, President of the Association of Machinery and Spare Parts Exporters Kutlu Karavelioğlu noted that it was a period when the world was stagnant and machinery manufacturers were the sector that made the best use of these three years. “Türkiye allocated 11.4 percent of national income to investment in machinery and equipment in 2020. On average, 6 percent of global income goes to investments in machinery. Investment in machinery and equipment increased 65 percent in 3 years. “Turkey has made a total of 313 billion dollars in investments in machinery and equipment in three years,” Karavelioğlu said, adding that by the end of this year, Turkey’s machinery imports will amount to 45 billion dollars and its exports to 29 billion dollars.
