The number of phones brought from abroad multiplied by 6 last year
The number of devices registered by passengers brought from abroad increased by 666.31 percent in 2022, reaching 844,877. In 2021, this figure was only 110,253.
The phone use permit fee presented by passengers increased from 6.91 TL to 20,000 TL in July this year, an increase of 228 percent.
22.6 MILLION PHONES WERE RECORDED
According to the Annual Report of the Information and Communications Technology Authority (BTK), in 2022 a total of 22 million 602 thousand 579 mobile phones were registered in the Mobile Device Registration System (MCKS).
Although 11 million 951 thousand 260 IMEI numbers were registered in 2021 with the importer’s request, this number decreased by 15.26 percent to 10 million 127 thousand 34 in 2022.
During this period, the number of IMEI numbers registered in the manufacturer’s application decreased 0.82 percent, going from 11 million 726 thousand 750 to 11 million 630 thousand 668.
EXPLOSION IN THE NUMBER OF IMPORTERS FROM FOREIGN
The number of devices registered by passengers brought from abroad increased by 666.31 percent in the same period, reaching 844,877 out of 110,253.
Thus, last year a total of 22,602,579 mobile phones were registered in the MCKS, including manufactured ones, imported ones, and those brought by passengers.

There has also been an increase in requests from citizens calling the Information and Reporting Center (BİM) within BTK to block communication about lost and stolen devices.
