Raw milk prices increase in four cities
The member cooperatives of the Central Köy-Koop Union met in Burdur to redetermine the price of raw cow’s milk.
The decision to increase the price of milk was made at a meeting attended by the Hay-Koop Antalya union, Köy-Koop’s Denizli, Burdur and Isparta unions and representatives of milk processing industrial organizations.
Rising costs were on the agenda at the meeting and it was noted that producers would not be able to survive these costs without increasing milk prices.
The National Milk Council (USK), which announced the production cost of a liter of raw milk at 10.54 TL from June 2023, increased the sales price of raw milk sold by the producer to 11, 50 TL. The producer’s expectation was that the price of raw milk would increase to 14-15 TL per liter to avoid losses.
SECOND INCREASE IN TWO MONTHS
While the difficulties experienced by milk producers continue, producer associations from 4 provinces held a joint meeting and announced that they increased the price of the milk they sell to industrialists by 8.87 percent.
The decision was made to increase and prices were equal to those of the Southern Marmara unions. Consequently, the price of raw cow’s milk, which will take effect from October 15, increased from 12 lira and 40 kuruş to 13 lira and 50 kuruş.
The producer unions of the four cities last decided to increase the price by 12.72 percent two months ago for the same reasons.
‘WE CAN MEET AGAIN’
Denizli Regional Union Chairman Mehmet Varol noted that there could be a new increase in the price of raw milk due to rising costs and made the following statements:
“We thought that the price we determined in the meeting two months ago would last us between 4 and 5 months. We could only last two months. We had to update our prices. The industrialists who attended our meeting requested 10 days. They will also explain the situation to their clients. Therefore, the increased price will be valid from October 15. I don’t know if this update will last 15 days or until the new year. “You see, we can meet again in a month or two,” he said.
