US jobless claims fell short of expectations

US jobless claims came in below expectations at 207,000 in the week ending September 30.

Economists participating in the Reuters poll predicted unemployment benefits would reach 210,000.

According to seasonally adjusted data announced by the US Department of Labor, the number of claims, which had previously been announced at 204,000 in the week ending September 23, was revised to 205,000.

DECREASED TO 1,664 MILLION

The four-week average of US jobless claims, which is considered a better indicator of US labor market trends, fell to 208,750 in the week ending September 30.

The total number of people receiving unemployment benefits in the US decreased to 1.664 million in the week ending September 23. (REUTERS)
