What will anchovy be like this winter?

Sea temperature affects fishing: What will the anchovy be like this winter?

The fish has taken its place on fish stalls since September 1, when the ban on hunting at sea ended. However, according to experts, high sea water temperatures negatively affect fishing.

President of the Çanakkale-Tekirdağ Regional Union, Central Union of Seafood Hunters Producers (DEM-BİR), Naci Karabiber, said: “From September 1, we start the season and go to sea. This year the fisherman couldn’t find what he expected like last year. We observe that the waters are very warm. The waters are still above 20 degrees. “The fish are very dispersed, the fishing is very poor,” he said.

The abundance experienced last year, especially in acorns, has not occurred this year. Karabiber said: “This year the fisherman couldn’t find what he expected like last year. We observe that the waters are very warm. The waters are still above 20 degrees. We measure the water temperature with our devices. The fish are very dispersed, the fishing is very bad. “It’s much lower than our estimate,” he said.

BLACK SEA anchovy WILL START IN NOVEMBER

Referring to fish diversity, Karabiber said: “Last year, the bonito population was very good. Acorns are also scarce this year. In our seas there is only anchovy, and that is in the Sea of Marmara. After November, anchovies will begin to appear in the Black Sea. All the anchovy hunters came to Marmara. Today, even Eastern Black Sea predators are found in the Sea of Marmara. There was intense net pressure on the anchovy. It’s a difficult process right now. The input costs are already obvious. “There is currently a lot of fishing pressure in the Sea of Marmara,” he said.

‘FISH POPULATION IS TOO LOW’

Karabiber stated that there are no fish in the Black Sea: “The fish business; winter work. The waters will become colder. The current fish population is very small. There is nothing in the Black Sea. On the 27th of the month a storm occurs that we call ‘black chestnut’. After this, the fall season will begin. The weather will become colder and rain will begin to fall. Then the fish will begin to move more massively. “Hunting will get better,” he said.

Karabiber stated that the abundance of fish depends on the climate:

“Last year there was a historic bonito hunt in Türkiye. This year was not good because the heat was too high. When the fish sheds its caviar, if the water temperature, the mineral content in the sea and the proportion of plankton provide sufficient conditions for the nutrition of the fry emerging from the caviar; There are many fish that year.

Because the sea water temperature was high, bonito, which were abundant last year, were not available this year. The anchovy population is very good. There are currently a huge amount of anchovies in Marmara. But since the water is still warm and the fish are scattered, the catch is smaller. You throw the net into the sea and 50, 100 boxes come out. Months later, when you cast the net of the same fish, between 500 and 1000 boxes will come out. “We expect this population after the ‘black chestnut’ storm.”

TAKE YOUR PLACE ON THE COUNTER

In Trabzon, the fish market became more active with the arrival of October. At the stalls in the Moloz area, in the Ortahisar district, anchovies were offered for sale at 60 liras per kilo, horse mackerel at 50 liras, shad at 60 liras, marlin at 125 liras, red mullet at 125 liras and tuna at 100 liras. lire. per kilogram.

Fisherman Gökmen Aydın stated that citizens are very interested in fish and said: “Yesterday anchovy cost 75 lira, today it costs 60 lira. Customer demand is anchovy, haddock and horse mackerel. We hope that from now on citizens will eat even more fish.” saying.

Fisherman Mehmet Örseloğlu also stated that since anchovy is identified with the Black Sea, local people expect low prices. (AA-DHA)
