Fine of 78.5 million for 44 companies that canceled e-commerce orders
The Ministry of Commerce announced today that it has imposed fines on 44 companies, saying that e-commerce order cancellations sparked consumer complaints.
The Ministry’s statement states that “As a result of the inspections carried out on companies that caused complaints to consumers as a result of the cancellation of orders, administrative fines totaling 78 million 530 thousand 902 TL were imposed on 44 companies in 2023.”
The statement stated that e-commerce has become widespread in recent years, but there is a need for greater consumer protection due to the lack of physical control of goods.
CANCELLATIONS OF ORDERS AFFECTED CONSUMERS
The statement stated that the paid orders were canceled for reasons such as increases in the cost of inputs and the exchange rate, or for the purpose of making more profits by taking advantage of price increases, and were not in stock, which which made the consumer suffer.
In this context, a total of 78 million 530 thousand 902 TL of administrative fines were imposed on 44 companies out of 61 inspected in 2023, whose practices were considered contrary to the legislation.
