Public companies could not keep pace with private companies

In 2022, when there was a rapid recovery from the effects of the pandemic and the market remained alive with high domestic demand, industrial giants doubled their sales, while most public companies could not keep up with private ones. While 9 public institutions were in the league of giants this year in the survey of the 500 largest industrial companies prepared by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry, public companies in the food sector, which in the past were among the top 100 in response to the increase in energy, they lost their places and moved towards the descent line in the second list of 500. Meat and Milk Institution (ESK), which was among the 100 largest industrial companies in Turkey in 2020, fell to the position 314 with sales of 1.5 billion TL in 2021, while it fell to 406th place with sales of 2.4 billion TL in 2022. It fell to 1st place.

FALLEN FROM THE TOP 100

Another controversial institution, ÇAYKUR, was among the top 100 organizations with its 74th place in 2020 and 89th in 2021, and fell to 106th place in 2022 with sales of 7.9 billion TL. Turkish sugar factories fell from 61st to 85th place in 2022. Among those moving up the list are EÜAŞ, which fell from 52nd to 11th, and TPAO, which fell from 34th to 21st. Turkey Rail System Vehicles Industry Inc. (TÜRASAŞ) was the first public company to enter the list this year.

Debts reached 152.3 billion Turkish lira

According to the research results, the total production sales of 9 public companies among the 500 industrial giants on the list reached 148 thousand 728 million TL. The total debts of the companies concerned amounted to 152 billion 393 million TL. Of this amount, 104 billion lira were short-term debts. Salary of 11.4 billion Turkish lira in 9 organizations employing a total of 37 thousand 825 people
and payment of the fee has been made.
