Prison for those who do not pay additional MTV

The approval by the Constitutional Court of the additional regulation of MTV paved the way for a series of additional burdens, including interest payments, declaration of ownership and imprisonment, for millions of vehicle owners who did not pay the first installment.

Ali Erdem Gündoğan, one of the lawyers at the Ankara Bar Association, assessed to SÖZCÜ how the additional decision of the MTV Constitutional Court will affect citizens.

Gündoğan stated that the Ministry of Finance will send a payment order to those who do not pay the first installment of the additional MTV, with the idea that the Constitutional Court will decide to annul it, and explained the process as follows:

“Those who do not pay the additional MTV will be sent a payment order by the tax offices, and in the payment order they will be asked to pay within 7 days with interest to be accrued from 09.06. 2023, last payment date for the additional MTV. If they do not pay within 7 days, they will be asked to declare their goods within the same period. “If citizens do not declare their assets, they will face 3 months of coercive imprisonment.”

ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF 15 THOUSAND TL FOR THOSE SUBMITTING A CLAIM

“The cases of those who pay the additional MTV and file a claim against the tax offices will be rejected by the courts. In this case, the legal costs will be borne by these citizens.

In addition, these citizens will have to pay the Treasury’s lawyers fees of 10,500 liras, and in case the lawyer’s fees are executed, 3,600 liras of the execution fee, for a total of 15,000 liras.
