Scholarships and loans received by university students hit rock bottom
The Istanbul Planning Agency (İPA) investigated the change in educational credits in relation to the minimum wage in Turkey between 2013 and 2023.
İPA, which shared the research results on its social media account, announced that KYK scholarships and loans received by university students are decreasing with each passing year and have reached the lowest level compared to the minimum wage as of this anus.
‘THREATS EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES’
IPA made the following statements regarding the ratio of scholarships and loans received in the last 10 years to the minimum wage:
“It dropped from 106 percent to 32 percent for doctoral students, from 71 to 21 percent for master’s students, and from 32 percent to 10 percent for undergraduates.
While this crisis causes families’ educational costs to increase exponentially, it also seriously threatens the right to public education and equal opportunity for students with low economic opportunities.”
