The poverty rate in the US increased for the first time in 9 years
The US Department of Commerce announced data on income, poverty and health insurance for 2022.
Consequently, the official poverty rate in the US did not change much in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching 11.5 percent.
According to the supplementary measurement, which includes income and social rights in the country, as well as government programs such as tax refunds and food stamps, the poverty rate increased 4.6 points annually in 2022, reaching 12.4 percent.
This change in the poverty rate drew attention as the first increase recorded since 2010.
HOUSEHOLD INCOME HAS DECLINED
The median household income in the country last year was estimated at $74,580, a decrease of 2.3 percent compared to 2021.
It was determined that 25.9 million people, corresponding to 7.9 percent of the country’s population, did not have any health insurance last year.
In 2021, 27.2 million people, 8.3 percent of the population, did not have health insurance. (AA)
