The number of “Neighborhood Kitchens”, which Mersin Metropolitan Municipality implemented with the motto “Our pot boils for sharing”, in order to provide cheap and healthy nutrition to low-income or fixed-income citizens due to the increasing cost of living, has increased to 42.
Poor citizens, oppressed by the AKP’s bankrupt economic policy, buy a three-course meal for a symbolic fee of 6 lira.
‘Neighborhood Kitchens’, 21 of which are in the center, 14 in Tarsus and 3 in Erdemli; Also added were the neighborhoods of Osmaniye and Çukurova in Toroslar District, Yeni Mahalle in Akdeniz District, and 75. Yıl District in Mezitli District.
Meals cooked in the Soup Kitchen, dependent on the Department of Social Services, reach citizens through the Neighborhood Kitchens for a symbolic fee of 6 lira for 3 types. Thanks to this service of the Metropolitan Municipality, the residents of Mersin, especially low-income citizens, are largely freed from the cost of food and have access to healthy and satisfying meals in an affordable manner.
‘IT IS OFFERED TO CITIZENS FOR A SYMBOLIC FEE’
Stating that they increased the number of neighborhood soup kitchens from 38 to 42, soup kitchen supervisor Ergün Horuz, under the Department of Social Services, said: “We deliver the healthy meals that we prepare in our soup kitchen to our citizens, accompanied by our engineers. of food and with our chefs who are experts in their fields.” Horuz noted that they offer the produced meals to citizens for a symbolic fee and said: “Currently, we offer a three-course meal with bread for a fee of 6 lira for all our citizens to purchase. “As Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, we support all our citizens, especially low-income people,” he said.
CITIZENS ARE SATISFIED
Yurdagül Ekinci, one of the citizens who expressed her joy at the start of the Neighborhood Kitchens project in the Osmaniye neighborhood, said: “We had heard about Neighborhood Kitchens before. We are very happy to have started here. “What exists, what does not exist, exists, whoever wants can come and take it,” she said.
Ekinci claimed that they can now buy food here when they are not cooking, saying: “Because we are not picky eaters, but our children are. The meals come with rice, soup, bread and everything. Our children will love it. “When they eat, I will be happy too,” she said.
İsmet Kuzu, one of the citizens, thanked the Metropolitan Municipality for the opening of the new Neighborhood Kitchens point in Osmaniye district and said: “We are satisfied with all the services provided by our municipality. Our food is very good. “We don’t cook meals like this even at home. I thank everyone who contributed,” he said.
Kuzu stated that everyone will benefit from Neighborhood Kitchens, saying: “If I had to cook a meal for 3 people at home, I wouldn’t be able to manage. There is a lot of meat and rice on the menu, and there is the stress of making it. “It’s 500 lira in a tube, it’s not possible, we can’t do it,” she said.
