Making a statement about the price increases of diesel fuel and fertilizers used by farmers, CHP Aydın Deputy Evrim Karakoz said: “The price of a liter of diesel fuel was 5 liras and 63 kuruş in 2018. Karakoz explained the price increases as follows:
796 PERCENT INCREASE
“The cost of urea fertilizer used in cereals, fruits and vegetables was 1,664 TL per ton, but today it has increased to 15,440 TL and the increase is 827 percent. Compound fertilizer 20.20.0 used as base fertilizer in all products, including cereals, cotton, sunflower and corn, amounted to 1,587 TL in 2018. Today it increased by 777 percent and reached 13 thousand 920 TL.” Karakoz stated that the average price of fertilizers increased by 796 percent and the average price of diesel fuel increased by 578 percent: “The prices of fertilizers used in our country have increased so much that; Even the 777 percent increase in grams of gold in the last 6 years could not match the 796 percent increase in fertilizers. The government’s misguided agricultural policies have put fertilizer prices ahead of gold prices. The high price of fertilizers directly leads to higher agricultural food inflation. “The government should look for ways to provide cheap fertilizers to farmers as soon as possible and fertilizer subsidies should increase significantly,” he said.
‘This would not have happened if the fertilizer factories had not been sold’
Evolution Karakoz stated that farmers have not been able to produce due to the increase in prices of DAP and UREA fertilizers and diesel since the beginning of the presidential system of government. Karakoz said: “If during the time of power, Türkiye Gübre Sanayi AŞ; Fertilizer factories in Gemlik, Samsun, Istanbul and Kütahya; If Şanlıurfa, Tekirdağ and Fatsa had not sold their warehouses, today we would not depend on foreigners and fertilizer prices would be much lower than current prices. “Our dependence on foreign countries has increased so much that the State cannot produce even a kilogram of fertilizer,” he said.
