More than 15,000 pieces of land, more than 289,000 residences and workplaces were sold to foreigners in 21 years
Despite the real estate crisis, while real estate sales to foreigners continued at full speed, the Ministry of the Interior responded to a written question from Istanbul CHP MP Özgür Karabat about real estate sales to foreigners.
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, which responded to Karabat’s question, between January 1, 2002 and July 19, 2023, 28 million 320 thousand 28 square meters of land were sold to foreigners, 289 thousand 412 residences and places of job.
In this period, the number of land sales was 15,812.
IT IS EFFECTIVE IN THE RISE OF PRICES
Evaluating the data, Karabat stressed that citizens could not find a house to live in and claimed that the AKP offered their homeland’s land to foreigners.
Recalling that citizenship is sold to foreigners in exchange for home purchases, Karabat asserted that foreigners dominate the real estate market and play an important role in raising prices.
‘THE SIZE OF THE LAND IS EQUAL TO THE AREA OF BAKIRKÖY’
Explaining that the sale of land to foreigners has also become a major problem, Karabat pointed out that the size of land sold in the last 21 years is equal to the area of Bakırköy.
Karabat said: “The AKP, by saying that the money will come anyway, has made foreigners a major player in Turkey with its sales of houses and land. With rising construction costs, the entry of foreigners into the market pushed prices even higher. Housing prices for sale and rent have doubled.
Noting that for the first time in the history of the Republic it is facing a real estate crisis, with the effect of sales to foreigners, and that landlords and tenants are facing each other, and even murders are being committed, Karabat states: “The AKP only observed this situation.”
‘BECOME A NATIONAL SECURITY PROBLEM’
Karabat said there should be restrictions on the sale of homes and land to foreigners and that the practice of selling citizenship in exchange for home purchases should end as soon as possible.

“The law and the sale of land to foreigners are becoming a matter of national security. This problem causes both security and financial problems. Due to unconditional sales to foreigners, Türkiye has become a hub for international criminals.
Almost every month it turns out that an international criminal settles in this way in Turkey. Those who commit crimes such as drugs, dirty money and arms smuggling come to Turkey to launder their money and protect themselves by obtaining citizenship. We are facing a terrible situation.”
