Tourism is affected by a power outage

Power outages that have been going on since the last three days and people, especially boutique hotels and merchants, have been put in a difficult situation due to these outages. Industry representatives stated that especially boutique hotels had to evacuate tourists and pointed out that the industry in Datça had collapsed.

THE ACCOMMODATION INDUSTRY CRASHES

Bulent Bülbüloğlu, a member of the Service Exporters Union Tourism Sector Committee and a tour operator, pointed out that there was a big problem, especially on the Datça peninsula, saying: “The entire accommodation and service sector in the region has collapsed. Once it was the fourth day. It was better the day before but they emptied the hotels. Without eleectricity. Spoiled food. Butcher, greengrocer, they were all devastated. We can say that it has especially affected inland tourism, summer houses and small hotels”.

Noting that boutique hotels are concentrated in the region where the blackouts were experienced, Bülbüloğlu said there was no crisis affecting the foreign market. While the utility company explained that the reason for the outages was excessive heat and heavy use of air conditioners and chillers, it noted that ADM Elektrik, which is responsible for the infrastructure in Aydın, Denizli and Muğla, urgently needs to upgrade its infrastructure established years ago and take measures such as necessary equipment, personnel and spare parts.
