The rise in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on fuels has hit drivers, especially those on long trips. A citizen, who went to Bodrum from Istanbul with his vehicle with a 50 liter capacity tank, filled the tank for 1402 TL on the way, but got caught in the SCT trek on the way back and had to fill it for 1702 TL. When bridge and highway fees are added, the cost of the highway came to 2,192 lira.

The increase of the SCT in combustible products occurred on the night that connects Saturday July 15 with July 16. The decision was published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Tayyip Erdoğan. Consequently, the SCT, which was TL 2.52 per liter of gasoline, rose to TL 7.52, and the SCT, which was TL 2.05 per liter of gasoline, rose to TL 7.05.

PAID 300 TL MORE OF GASOLINE

When 20 percent VAT was added to the increase of 5 TL SCT, the reflection of the increase in the sale price of the pump reached 6 TL. After the last rise in the prices of diesel and gasoline, which came with the increase of the SCT, prices exceeded 30 liras. On 15 July, diesel was sold at TL 26.37 per liter and TL 28.05 per liter for gasoline in Istanbul. As of Sunday, July 16, average gasoline prices in Istanbul were TL34.05, while diesel prices were TL32.37. Thus, on Saturday, July 15, the citizen who went to Bodrum from Istanbul with his own vehicle, filled the 50-liter tank for 1,402 TL, and had to pay an extra 300 TL for the way back. When bridge and road fees are added, the cost of the road exceeded 2 thousand lira.

VAT increase is added to bridges and highways

Only the cost of fuel did not increase in travel expenses incurred on the way to Bodrum. On the way to Bodrum, it is necessary to pay a total of 490 TL, with increased prices, 20 TL for the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, 190 TL for the Osmangazi Bridge, 280 TL for the Istanbul-Izmir highway. Before the fare increase came into effect, a total of TL443.5 was paid, including TL19 for the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, TL184.5 for the Osmangazi Bridge, and TL240 for the Istanbul-Izmir Expressway. While the Istanbul-Bodrum trip cost a total of TL 1,845.5 before July 16, when the price hikes came, it increased by TL 346.5 to TL 2,192 after the price hikes.
