The cost of the kilogram of honey was determined at 110.76 lire.
Turkish Beekeepers Center Union (TAB) President Ziya Şahin said: “By 2023, the cost of 1 kilogram of wildflower upland honey was determined at 110.76 lira, and the purchase price of 26 kilograms of tin from the beekeeper was determined at 2 thousand 879”.
In his statement, Şahin stated that the most basic objectives are to ensure the sustainability of beekeeping companies producing honey in Turkey, to increase the quality of honey and the yield per hive to the world average level.
‘THEY HAVE TO GO MORE MILES’
Stating that they are working to ensure that honey produced by the bee and the beekeeper under natural conditions dominates the market and that beekeepers producing under difficult conditions reap the reward for their efforts, Şahin gave the following statements in his statement:
“75-80% of beekeeping in our country is carried out by wandering activities. Our wandering beekeeper, in addition to producing in each region through which he passes, also provides free pollination services for the agricultural sector.
Each of our wandering beekeepers travels an average of 20 thousand kilometers a year, changing 5 to 6 accommodation areas a year. Due to global climate changes, the manufacturer has to travel further and cover more kilometers to get to the product.”
INPUTS COSTS RISE
Noting that expenses such as fuel, feed, consumables, machinery/equipment and labor have increased in recent years, Şahin stated that these input costs also affect the cost of honey.
Şahin stated that his unions traditionally publish the cost of 1 kilogram of honey to producers every year in June-July, saying:
“By 2023, the cost of 1 kilogram of wild flowers – altiplano honey is 110.76 lire, and the purchase price of 26 kilograms of tin from the beekeeper is determined at 2 thousand 879. I would like to underline that these figures from the we are talking about are honey production costs.
To ensure the sustainability of our beekeepers’ businesses, they need to earn more than the costs. All purchases below this price mean the extinction of Turkish beekeeping. At this point, I kindly request our beekeepers and union leaders to show sensitivity and take this price as a basis.” (AA)
