OPEC Secretary General: Global Energy Demand Will Increase 23 Percent By 2045

Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), announced that global energy demand is expected to increase by 23% by 2045.

Ghais made the remarks at the oil and gas conference in Nigeria.

“Global demand for primary energy is projected to increase by a significant 23 percent in the period to 2045. This means we will need all kinds of energy,” he said.

‘INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES NEEDED’

“In addition to the low-carbon systems that have received positive approval from the G20, we will need innovative solutions such as carbon and hydrogen capture projects,” Ghasis said.

Stating that the global oil industry needs $12.1 trillion of investment in the same period, Ghais added that the industry is not yet on the path to reach this level of investment.
