The problem of piracy in the transport sector is growing

The informal problem of the door-to-door transport sector in Turkey continues to aggravate both customers and companies. The report titled “The structure, problems and solution proposals of the door-to-door freight transport sector”, shared at the meeting held at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, also revealed the problems. According to the report, there are only about 2,000 companies in Turkey that have the K3 certificate for domestic moving goods transportation and the C3 certificate required for domestic and international moving goods transportation.

UNKNOWN AUTHORITY CERTIFICATE

In this context, thousands of companies in the sector do not have a transport document. Some companies that do not have a transport document will rent different documents. According to the report, the companies in question lease the L document, which is used only in logistics services, for periods of one year, but this document is not valid in the field of freight transport.

The report also included a questionnaire made up of responses from people who received freight transportation services. According to the survey results, the satisfaction rate in the sector decreased to 14 percent. The rate of those who evaluated the service received as ‘mediocre’, ‘bad’ or ‘very bad’ was 86 percent. It was also revealed that the recipients of the service did not question the authorization certificate of the companies. In this context, 90 percent of the participants are unaware of the documents that companies must have.

According to the report, only 7 percent of consumers asked companies if they had a K3 certificate. According to the study, 74 percent of consumers made a written contract for the move. The report demands that inspections regarding authorization certificates be increased and that informality in the sector be prevented.

Known platforms host ‘pirate company’

Assessing the report, Ali Ayılmazdır, Chairman of the House-to-Home Carriers Association, said: “The annual income of our industry is TL 22 billion. 80 percent of this figure is illegal. Some well-known websites and platforms also host illegal companies. The reason why the satisfaction rate in the industry is so low is because of the hacked companies. We also saw the extent of the problems experienced after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Exorbitant prices were demanded from those affected by the earthquake, elevator rental costs became the agenda and they received services from companies that did not have the necessary equipment. “The only solution is control,” he said.

Ali Ayilmazdir

‘It employs day laborers, it has no office or intermediary’

Calling for further inspections, Ali Ayılmazdır said, “We have reported this matter to the authorities many times, but no solution-oriented measures have been taken. Companies must have qualified personnel. But we hear that some companies provide transportation services with daily workers. Some companies have ads on the Internet, but they don’t even have an office or a middleman. 90 percent of complaints are caused by them. Those who want to hire transport services should question the company’s documents so as not to be a victim.
