Increase in bread in Eskişehir: reduced weight, increased price

With the increase in the exchange rate, fuel prices and the minimum wage, all products from A to Z continue to increase. After the bagel, which sold for 5 lira in Eskişehir last week, became 7 lira, the bread also increased.

While the weight of bread in Eskişehir was reduced by 10 grams, its price was set at 7 lira.

THE BREAD WILL BE SOLD FOR 7 LIRA

The last time in December last year, bread sold at 4 lira increased 25 percent to 5 lira. The Eskişehir Central Anatolian Bakery Employers’ Union applied to the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce (ETO) for a raise last month. The increase demanded by the union was discussed on the agenda of the ETO Assembly.

The union’s request to sell bread at 8 lire with a 60 percent increase was not accepted. It was accepted that bread, of which 210 grams were sold at 5 lire, would be produced 10 grams less and 200 grams would be sold at 7 lire. The increase will take effect from July 25, 2023.

‘WE HAVE TO REFLECT THE DIFFERENCE IN THE BREAD’

The head of the Central Anatolian Bakery Operators Union, Musa Kazım Mülazımoğlu, emphasizing that their costs have increased with the determination of the minimum wage, said that bakers are in a difficult situation due to rising costs.

Emphasizing that there has been an increase in needle and thread, Mülazımoğlu said:

“When there is an increase in our raw materials, naturally we have to make an increase. Yesterday we bought flour for 360 liras, today it is 640 liras. We have to reflect the 100 percent difference in the bread.

We don’t want to raise the bread. But sometimes we have to. Currently 210 grams of bread are sold at 5 lire. Normally, when we apply the increase in our raw material, bread should be at 10 lire. The price of bread, of which 210 grams are still sold at 5 lire, is making bakers lose. Bread is a basic food, we demand an increase in bread considering the essential minimum”.

INTEREST IN PEOPLE’S BREAD SOLD FOR 3 LIRA

The 200 grams of popular bread produced in the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Public Bread Facilities still sells for 3 lira. The demand for public bread produced by the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality is increasing day by day. The public bread in the municipality draws a lot of attention, as it is cheaper than bakeries, markets and grocery stores. For this reason, from time to time queues form in front of the public bread kiosks.
