In the 5-year period covering 2018-2022 in Turkey, a total of 9.4 billion lira damage was paid out in state-backed agricultural insurance, while “full” ranked first with 2.7 billion lira according to the cause of the damage. .

According to the information compiled by the OA correspondent of the Turkish Statistical Institute, the number of insured in agriculture and the accumulated insurance premiums increased with the effect of the development of the insurance sector, the awareness of farmers and the support provided by the state.

In the 2018-2022 period, damage payments were made to those who operate in fields such as herbalists, greenhouses, cattle/sheep farming, and beekeeping for disasters such as hail, frost, flood and inundation, fire, landslide, and tornado.

HAIL PAYMENT OF 2.7 BILLION TL

In said period, the most paid disaster topic was “hail”. While 2.683 million liras were paid for “hail”, this disaster was followed by “frost” with 2.290 million liras and “death” with 1.279 million liras.

Other items that stood out in the payment were “forced slaughter” with 835.6 million liras, “storm” with 600.6 million liras, “floods and floods” with 309.7 million liras, death of babies with 230 million of liras and “wild boars” with 210 million liras.” it was listed as “puppy release” with 136.1 million lira.

Tornado, fire and landslide were the items that paid less damage.
Thus, the payment made for damages in 5 years amounted to 9 thousand 417 million 874 thousand liras.

NUMBER OF POLICIES REACHES 3 MILLION

A constant increase in the number of policies and the total cost of insurance was observed with the steps taken in said period. The number of policies, which was 1.8 million in 2018, reached 2 million in 2019, 2.2 million in 2020, 2.5 million in 2021 and 3 million in 2022.

The total cost of insurance increased to 42.2 billion lira in 2018, 55.2 billion lira in 2019, and 83.1 billion lira in 2020. Accelerating its upward momentum in 2021 and beyond, the total cost of insurance increased to 124.4 billion lira in 2021 and 296.1 billion lira in 2022.

Therefore, the total cost of insurance in 5 years was calculated at 601 billion 77 million lira.

50-67 PERCENT PREMIUM SUPPORT TO MANUFACTURERS

Özdemir stated that between 50 and 67 percent of the state premium support was given to producers for whom the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry issued agricultural insurance policies, under the Law Protecting Producers’ Sweat Against disasters caused by adverse weather events. , whose frequency and severity have increased due to the effect of climate change in recent years.

Referring to the development of supports in 5 years, Özdemir said:
