THE DOLLAR RISES STRONG AFTER THE ELECTIONS
Exchange rates, which were kept close to the horizontal level by the depletion of Central Bank reserves (CBRT) and borrowing from foreign countries before the elections, rose rapidly after the elections.
The dollar exchange rate, which was at the level of 18.73 at the beginning of the year, had reached TL 19.60 before the May 14 elections and TL 19.98 before the second round on May 28. The exchange rate had exceeded 26 TL on June 26.
The rise of the dollar has exceeded 7 lira since the beginning of the year and 6 lira after the elections. The proportional increase in the value of the dollar exceeded 30 percent for the period after the second round of elections and 39 percent since the beginning of the year.
The increase in the exchange rate is expected to cause an increase in official consumer inflation, which fell to 40 percent.
