Tomorrow begins the increase in the rate for the passage of ships through the Strait
Tomorrow the rate increase for the passage of ships through the Strait begins.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the toll rate will apply at $4.42 per net ton starting tomorrow.
In his written statement, Uraloğlu said: “The fee of $4.08 per net ton will be $4.42 from July 1, 2023. With the Presidential Decision, the Bosphorus tolls will be updated every year. Our revenue from the Strait will increase,” he said.
$4.42 PER TONS OF INTERNATIONAL SHIPS
According to the Ministry’s statement, according to the Montreux Convention, ships that are going to pass through the Strait of Turkey without a stopover are charged for three items: health inspection service, lighthouse service and salvage service. The net tonnage (NRT) of the ships and the “Gold Franc” as a unit are taken as the basis for calculating the rates.
From 1983 to October 7, 2022, international ships transiting the strait were charged $0.80 per net ton. This amount was increased to $4.08 last year with the Presidential Decision. With the new update, the net unit per ton used to determine the strait tolls has been increased to $4.42, starting tomorrow.
WILL UPDATE AUTOMATICALLY ON JULY 1
Before October 7, 2022, a total of $3,240 was charged for lighthouse, salvage and sanitation services for a 10,000 net tonnage ship. This fee was increased to $16,393 in October 2022, when the first price adjustment was made. With the new tariff that will be approved tomorrow, 17 thousand 760 dollars will be paid for a ship of 10 thousand tons of net tonnage.
According to the Presidential Decision, the Bosphorus tolls will be automatically recalculated and updated on July 1 of each year. (AA)
