The EU reserves vaccine production capacity for the future
The European Union (EU) has set aside an annual vaccine production capacity of 325 million doses to prepare for future outbreaks.
The EU Commission has announced that it has signed contracts to maintain vaccine production capacity with several vaccine companies.
The statement indicated that a network was established with companies that can quickly produce the vaccines that will be required in emergency situations, and that this network includes the manufacturers of mRNA, vector and protein vaccines Pfizer, Bilthoven Biologicals and Laboratorios Hipra .
160 MILLION EUROS FINANCED
The statement noted that these companies are required to protect facilities, personnel and supply chains for the ability to produce 325 million doses of vaccine per year within the EU.
It was stated in the statement that the companies will start producing vaccines at the request of the EU Commission, and that the EU will provide 160 million euros of financing to these manufacturers per year.
