Stores closed like long lines
When the Meat and Milk Institution (ESK) began to close its stores, where citizens stood in long lines to buy cheap meat, it became a dream to buy meat at an affordable price for the poor. While all but two of the institution’s stores in Ankara were closed, the issue was brought up on the agenda of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly. CHP MP Ali Öztunç made a motion, asking: “Have the queues upset the government?” When citizens queued in front of the IHC in the morning and there were lines, queue machines were placed in stores, as well as in banks. .

The increase in the length of the tails also worried the government and IHC products increased. Osman Uzun, the General Manager at the time, explained this walk: “There were long lines. We also increased the price, ”he argued, and he was fired. Then the stores began to close. Only the Sincan and Ulus shops remained in Ankara. The Kızılay store with the longest queues was also closed. CHP Kahramanmaraş MP Ali Öztunç took the issue to Parliament and asked the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı when the shops would open. Öztunç recalled that IHC provides cheap meat and dairy products to citizens and has closed many of its stores in Turkey. Öztunç said: “The closure of the shops, where our economically strapped citizens have queued at their doors, disappointed our citizens, who buy cheaper meat.”

Why are the stores closing?
Ali Öztunç asked Minister İbrahim Yumaklı the following questions in the motion he prepared: “How many stores does the institution have and how many have been closed so far? What are the reasons for closing your stores across the country? Is it true that the long queues of citizens in front of the points of sale caused discomfort in the government and that the shops were closed for that reason? What is the institution’s profit and loss statement for years since 2017? What is the monthly rent paid for the institution’s headquarters building?”
