Banking sector deposits increased last week

Total deposits in the banking sector increased by 368.5 billion lira in the week ending June 16 to 11 trillion 659.8 billion lira.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) published weekly monetary and banking statistics.

Consequently, total deposits in the banking sector (including between banks) increased by 368 billion 539 million 67 thousand lira in the week ending June 16 to 11 trillion 659 billion 757 million 529 thousand lira.

DEPOSIT IN FOREIGN CURRENCY INCREASED

In the same period, TL deposits with banks increased 3.3 percent to 6 trillion 406 billion 418 million 497 lira, and foreign currency (FX) deposits increased 2.8 percent to 4 trillion 721 billion 991 million 46 thousand lire.

While the total of foreign currency deposits in banks was 211.346 million dollars last week, 176.3 billion dollars of this amount was collected in the accounts of residents.

When observing the variation of the total deposits in foreign currency of the country’s residents, as of June 16, an increase of 1,776 million dollars was observed, adjusted for the parity effect.

INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF THE COMMERCIAL LOAN

Consumer loans at deposit banks fell 0.04 percent last week to 1 trillion 299.140 million 88 thousand lira. In the same period, business loans with installments increased 0.3 percent to 1 trillion 52.997 million 740 thousand lira, and the balance of credit cards increased 1 percent to 1 trillion 47.716 million 350 thousand lire.

Consumer loans at deposit banks consisted of 397,824,684,000 liras for housing, 63,831,160,000 liras for vehicles, and 837,484,244,000 liras for other loans.

The total volume of loans from the banking sector, including CBRT, increased by 46.315 million 628 thousand liras in the week ending June 16, reaching 9 trillion 301 billion 455 million 357 thousand liras. The total volume of loans increased by 52.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. (AA)
