You can’t buy a sausage roll today at the price of sheep and goats 10 years ago.

Due to the prices of small animals and bovines in the qurban markets, it became a dream to slaughter the citizens.

During the AKP rule, the dreams of millions of people who could no longer eat meat due to ever-higher prices and who expected the meat of slaughtered animals to be brought by those who slaughtered during the festival were also shattered.

Comparing slaughter prices in qurban markets with ten years ago, citizens claimed that they could not even buy a sausage roll today with the money they bought a sheep at that time.

Sheep 10 YEARS AGO, TODAY YOU ARE BUYING KANGAL SUJUK

Before Eid al-Adha 2013, the prices of sheep and goats in the markets ranged from 300 to 500 lira depending on their size and weight, while in 2023 they sell for between 7,000 and 16,000 lira. For 300-500 lire, which was bought as a sacrifice ten years ago, today you can only buy a coil or a kilogram of sausage depending on its brand in chain markets and shopping sites.

The average price of cattle sacrifices, which sold for between 2,000 and 10,000 lire ten years ago, varies between 60 and 110,000 lire this year. The price of cattle shares starts from 10 thousand lire. Whereas ten years ago the price of live sacrifices fluctuated between 12 and 16 lire, today it is around 320 lire.

THESE PRICES DO NOT SATISFY THE MANUFACTURER

The producers, who brought the qurbans they loaded on trucks from the eastern Anatolian provinces to the coastal and western cities, said: “Inflation is in the middle, input prices have risen a lot. Whereas 7 years ago a truck full of slaughtered animals cost 4,000 lira, now it costs 40,000 lira. A bag of bait that we bought for 70 lira just a couple of years ago costs 400-450 lira. These numbers do not save us, but we have to sell. Prices should start from at least ten thousand lira, but those who come to buy qurban say ‘I can only buy a sacrificial animal without spending a penny after working for a month’, and he is right. If we cannot sell these animals that we have brought, we are already lost, we will go bankrupt,” he said.
