Hazelnut producers announced their base price expectations

Hazelnut producers announced their base price expectations

Chairman of the Provincial Coordination Board of Artvin Chambers of Agriculture and Chairman of the Borcka Chamber of Agriculture Tolga İskenderoğlu said: “More diversification of hazelnut processing companies in the country is needed without creating a monopoly. . We need the Turkish Grain Board to play a much more active role in protecting hazelnut farmers. Our expectation for hazelnut prices this year is at least 120 lire. If the price is announced below this price for our grower, I think our grower will be seriously hurt.”

“WE PRODUCE AN INCREDIBLE QUALITY HAZELNUT”

Tolga İskenderğlu, Chairman of the Artvin Borcka Chamber of Agriculture, where 7,500 tons of hazelnuts are produced at the provincial level, made a statement on the problems of hazelnut farmers. iskenderoglu said:

“We have about 7,000 hazelnut farmers in our province, and they produce hazelnuts in Borcka and Murgul districts. As Artvin, we produce approximately 7,500 tons of hazelnuts. Although it has decreased a bit depending on the weather conditions, I think we produced about 5,000 tons of good quality hazelnuts even in the periods when it fell. When we add to this Macahel, the first and only biosphere reserve in our country, we produce hazelnuts of considerable quality in the Black Sea region.

Of course, we have serious problems with hazelnuts. First of all, we need state support to renovate our hazelnut land, rejuvenate and maintain our hazelnut land, and we also need to train our farmers and improve their land so that we can increase productivity. Of course, to do this, to produce hazelnuts of better quality and more efficiently, it is necessary to increase the income of the hazelnut farmer.

“OUR EXPECTATION FOR THE HAZELNUT THIS YEAR IS AT LEAST 120 LIRA”

This is a link in the chain, the producer will produce, the industry will work, but in the event that the producer cannot earn money and can only live a little, it is difficult to allocate an additional budget for garden improvement in order to increase production, and of course he can’t. Therefore, there is a need to explain a hazelnut price that satisfies the producer and serves the land while earning a living.

In particular, there is a need for further diversification of hazelnut processing companies in the country without creating a monopoly. We need the Turkish Grain Board to play a much more active role in protecting hazelnut farmers. Our expectation for the price of hazelnuts this year is at least 120 lire, which is our expectation. If the price is announced below this price for our grower, I think our grower will be seriously affected.” (PHOENIX)
