BES: The hunger limit is 12 thousand 732 TL, the poverty limit is 40 thousand 661 TL
Aziz Özkan, General Secretary of the Office Workers Union, announced the results of the union’s inquiry into the hunger and poverty line in May.
Özkan stated that according to the calculation made on the increase in food, the hunger limit for a family of 4 is 12,732 liras and the poverty line is 40,661 liras.
‘WE HAVE WORKERS LIVING BELOW THE FUNGER LIMIT’
Özkan said: “The cost of living for a single person was 17,188 lira. As the Clerks Union, we reiterate our promise that ‘there will be no public workers paid below the poverty line’. We reiterate our request. There are workers living below the poverty line in the public sector. The daily cost of a healthy diet exceeded 424 lira. In 2023, the minimum wage remained below the poverty line. Raising the lowest pension to 7,500 lira doesn’t make any sense,” he said.
‘WE ARE DEMANDING WAGES TO LIVE HUMANLY’
Explaining the cost of living for a single public worker, Özkan said: “The cost of living for a single public worker has exceeded the salary of a civil servant who has been married for 20 years, has 2 children, and works in the chief position. . We ask for rental support in metropolitan areas to meet the housing needs of public workers. Although the total amount of health, food and housing needs of public workers in the metropolises has exceeded 40 thousand liras, the salaries we receive correspond to between 11 thousand liras and 15 thousand liras. As BES we reiterate the demand for a human wage for all public workers, minimum wage earners, retirees, the unemployed and the poor”. (PHOENIX)
