US Inflation Figures Announced

Annual consumer inflation in the US was 4 percent in May, slightly below expectations. Monthly consumer inflation in the country was in line with expectations at 0.1 percent. Core CPI, on the other hand, was close to expectations at 5.2.

Consumer inflation in the markets was expected to fall to 4.1 percent annually and 0.1 percent monthly in May. The core CPI was expected to be 5.3 percent annually.

Inflation in the US was announced at 4.9 percent annually in April, below expectations. Inflation fell to its lowest level in two years in April.

ENERGY PRICES DECREASED

It fell to the lowest level seen since March 2021.

In May, energy prices decreased 3.6 percent compared to the previous month, while food prices increased 0.2 percent. While energy prices declined 11.7 percent in the 12-month period, food prices increased 6.7 percent.

Since the data was in line with expectations, there were no big moves in asset prices.

THE LATEST IN GOLD AND DOLLAR

Although gold prices, which were $1,959 per ounce before the data was released, reached as high as $1,970 after the data was released, they declined rapidly to $1,963 as of 3:45 p.m.

The dollar index, which measures the US dollar against major currencies, fell to 103.16 from 103.32. The euro/dollar parity, which was at the level of 1.0794 before the release of the data, rose to the level of 1.0810.

Bitcoin, which saw the 26,233 level before the data was announced, rose to the 26,400 level after the data, but declined to $26,125 at 15:45.
