The types of spending with the lowest share of total consumption spending were education services at 1.4 percent, health spending at 2.2 percent, and entertainment and culture spending at 2.5 percent. .

Based on the 2019 results of the household budget survey; In Turkey, the highest share of household consumption expenditure was housing and rental expenses with 24.1%, food and non-alcoholic beverages came second with 20.8% and transportation expenses ranked third with 16.5%.

To make household consumption expenditure comparable, the equivalent per capita consumption expenditure obtained considering the size and composition of the household is used. The average monthly consumption expenditure was estimated at 12 thousand 159 TL per household and 6 thousand 259 TL per equivalent person.

Households whose main source of income is salaries, wages and wages; While assigning a 22.5 percent share to transportation expenses, 21.0 percent to food and non-alcoholic beverage expenses, and 20.8 percent to housing and rent expenses, households with business income; It allocated 27.2 percent to transportation expenses, 22.9 percent to food and non-alcoholic beverage expenses, and 18.5 percent to housing and rent expenses.

HIGHER PROPORTION OF FOOD AMONG THE POOR

Considering the distribution of consumer spending in 2022 by groups of 20%, ordered by income; Households in the top 20 percent, which is the lowest income group, spend 35.8 percent on food and non-alcoholic beverages, 29.3 percent on housing and rent, 8.3 percent in transportation expenses and 5.5 percent in furniture and household items. share.

Households in the fifth 20 percent group, which is the highest income group, on the other hand, spend 28.5 percent on transportation expenses, 19.3 percent on housing and rent expenses, the 16.6 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverage expenses and 6.8 percent in restaurant and hotel expenses, a part is allocated.

HIGHER PROPORTION OF FOOD IN ALL HOUSEHOLDS

Considering the distribution of consumption expenses by household size in 2022; single-person households spent 27.7 percent on housing and rental expenses, 20.4 percent on transportation expenses, and 16.8 percent on food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Households with a household size of 7 or more spent 35.9% on food and non-alcoholic beverages, 18.8% on housing and rent, and 14.4% on transportation.
