Hail hit the peanut orchards

Hail hit the peanut orchards

The hail, which was effective in Siirt, caused extensive damage to the so-called ‘green gold’ pistachio orchards.

The president of the Siirt Pistachio Producers Association, Şuayip Aslan, who stated that the damage will also affect production next year, said: “I am 50 years old, I have not been damaged so much in pistachio vineyards until this age. We have seen that not only this year’s labor, but also next year’s crop is gone,” he said.

“If farmers are not supported, these areas will fall behind in production. That is why we expect the support of our state for this damage, ”he said.

Ergün Demirhan, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, who carried out inspections in the Tillo district, where the damage assessment studies started, said: “The damage in the areas affected by the hail is really great. We tell our producers to recover soon. As the Directorate, we will try to do everything possible to support him, ”he said.

‘THIS YEAR WAS GIVEN’

Ergün Demirhan, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, warned growers to secure their vineyards and orchards, saying:

“There was a local hail storm in Siirt. This hail was especially effective in the villages of İkizbağlar, Dereyamaç and Sinep in our Tillo district. In the areas affected by the hail, the damage is really enormous.

This year was a performance year for this region. Our gardens and vineyards preserve the fruit very well. We tell our producers to recover soon.

As the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and our Provincial Directorate, we will try to do the best we can. We have insured and uninsured vineyards and gardens. On this occasion, we advise all our viticulturists to be a little more sensitive with agricultural insurance and to insure their vineyards and gardens as much as possible”.

‘NEXT YEAR’S PRODUCT IS GONE’

Hamza Aslan, who is a farmer in İkizbağlar village, stated that the flood waters caused the opening of water channels in the garden, saying:

We suffered a lot of damage, after the hail, the flood waters caused the water channels to open in the garden. Our peanuts are gone. Next year’s harvest is gone, that is, our two years of work wasted. Our state elders see our situation, we would love if they could be of help. Our expectation is that our loan payments will be late.
