Moody’s warning to Poland

In the Moody’s report, it was recalled that Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the law that provides for the establishment of a commission to prevent Russian interference in Poland and the country’s general elections to be held in autumn.

In the report, it was emphasized that the law in question could deepen Poland’s rule of law conflict with the EU, which could cause Poland to lose a large part of EU funds.

Referring to the post-epidemic exclusion of Poland from the EU fund on rule of law grounds, Moody’s noted that it is doubtful that this dispute can be resolved before the elections in Poland.

Poland will go to the polls in the fall, and opposition figures in the country will target prominent opposition figures such as Donald Tusk, the former prime minister and current leader of the Civic Platform (PO), the largest opposition party, the commission to be established under the recently adopted law on “Russian influence”.

Similar concerns were expressed by the US State Department and the European Commission.

The Commission will have the power to annul an administrative decision that it considers to have been made under the influence of Russia, and may impose a disqualification of up to 10 years from holding public office on those who make such decisions. (AA)
