We drink taxes, not coke
Making a statement about the price of 2.5 liters of coke, which increased to 35 lira, former CHP Uşak deputy Özkan Yalım pointed out that almost 1/3 of the price of coke is tax. Yalım recalled that the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) rate for carbonated beverages was increased by decision of the President, and also stated that 8 percent of the Value Added Tax (VAT) is levied.
Noting that the duty-free price of 2.5 liters of coke is 24 TL, Yalım stated that a total of 11 TL was collected for SCT and VAT. While the labels on just about everything have changed recently, beverages have been added to products that have increased. Making a statement about the walk in which the tables’ favorite drink, cola, also got its share, Özkan Yalım, a former CHP deputy, said:
SCT INCREASED TO 35 PERCENT
“In accordance with the President’s decision published in the Official Gazette on July 15, 2021, the SCT rate for cola and soft drinks was increased from 25 percent to 35 percent, and an 8 percent fee is also charged. VAT. Coca-Cola, which has a tax-free price of 24 lire, costs 11 lira with tax.”
