Steel production in Turkey fell 20.6 percent in April

The Brussels-based World Steel Association (Worldsteel) announced crude steel production data for April.

Consequently, global crude steel production fell 2.4 percent to 161.4 million tonnes last month, compared with the same period in 2022.

Output from China, the world’s largest steel producer, was estimated to have fallen 1.5 percent to 92.6 million tonnes in that period.

Turkey’s crude steel output, on the other hand, declined 20.6 percent in April compared to the same period a year earlier and fell to 2.7 million tonnes.

INCREASED IN RUSSIA AND IRAN

Japan production decreased 3.1 percent to 7.2 million tons, Germany production decreased 3.8 percent to 3.2 million tons and US production decreased 5.3 percent to 6.6 million tons.

Turkey’s crude steel output decreased 20.6 percent in April compared to the same period a year earlier and dropped to 2.7 million tonnes.

In the said period, steel production is estimated to rise 1.9 percent to 6.4 million tons in Russia and 3.1 million tons in Iran with an increase of 5.9 percent.

Global crude steel production decreased 0.3 percent to 622.7 million tonnes in January-April 2023, compared with the same period last year.

The World Steel Association expects global steel demand to rise 1.7% in 2024, following an expected 2.3% increase in consumption this year due to a recovery in manufacturing activities. (AA)
