Chinese and British companies build a petrochemical plant in Algeria

Algeria’s national oil and gas company Sonatrach announced that China’s HQC companies and UK-based Petrofac will build a petrochemical plant in Oran (Vahran) in the west of the country at a cost of 1,500 millions of dollars.

In a written statement from Sonatrach, it was reported that an agreement was signed with the companies HQC and Petrofac to build a petrochemical plant in the city of Oran.

The statement reported that the factory, to be built in the Arzew industrial zone in the city of Oran, will produce 550,000 tons of polypropylene per year, and the construction cost of the facility will be 1.5 billion dollars.

Recalling that the tender for the construction of the factory, which is wholly owned by a subsidiary company affiliated with Sonatrach, was opened in April 2021, it was noted that the companies HQC and Petrofac, which offered the best price, won the tender. .

Polypropylene is used in the automotive, textile, construction, pharmaceutical and other industries.

Sonatrach, in association with Rönesans Holding, is establishing a polypropylene production plant with an annual capacity of 450,000 tons with an investment of US$1.2 billion in the Adana Ceyhan Petrochemical Industrial Mega Zone. (AA)
