Producer prices rose in the euro area

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published the March PPI data for the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone.

According to the data, while the PPI in the EU decreased by 1.5 percent in March compared to the previous month, it increased by 7 percent compared to March 2022.

In the Euro Zone, the PPI decreased 1.6 percent monthly in March, while it increased 5.9 percent annually.

Market expectations were that the PPI would decline 1.7 percent monthly and rise 5.9 percent annually.

HIGHEST INCREASE IN HUNGARY

The Euro Zone annual PPI was in line with expectations.

In the period in question, producer prices of non-durable consumer goods increased by 13.4% per year in the euro area.

Among EU countries, the PPI increased the most in Hungary at 48.1 percent, Slovakia at 32.9 percent and Latvia at 27 percent in March. The annual increase in PPI was 8.1 percent in Germany and 12.9 percent in France. (AA)
