TurkStat: Richest 20 percent share of total income increased to 48 percent
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the income distribution statistics for 2022.
According to the research results, the share of the 20 percent group with the highest equivalent disposable family income in the total income increased by 1.3 points compared to the previous year and reached 48 percent, while the share from the 20 percent group with the lowest disposable income. income was 0.1% decreased to 6 percent.

The Gini coefficient, which is one of the criteria for inequality in income distribution, expresses equality in income distribution as it approaches zero, and deteriorates as it approaches one.

According to the 2022 survey results, the annual average disposable income of households in Turkey increased by 28.3 percent and became TL 98,416.

HIGHER INCOME IN SINGLE HOUSEHOLDS
In the equivalent annual average household disposable income, single-person households achieved the highest income, with an increase of 13,257 TL compared to the previous year, with 62,554 TL.
While the average annual equivalent disposable family income of households made up of more than one person without a family nucleus was 60,696 TL, this value was 49,902 TL in households made up of a single family nucleus.
The type of household with the lowest average annual equivalent disposable family income was 36,210 TL, with at least one nuclear family and other people.
HIGHER PROPORTION OF INCOME FROM WAGES AND SALARIES
Income from wages and salaries, which had the largest participation in total income with 46.2 percent, decreased 0.9 points compared to the previous year.
Business income, which increased 3.5 points compared to the previous year with 21.0 percent, ranked second, while income from social transfers, which decreased 3.7 points compared to the previous year, ranked third. with 20.2 percent.
While the share of farm income in entrepreneurs’ income was 19.8 percent, the share of retirees and survivors’ pensions in social transfers was 89.8 percent.
LAST ENTRIES BY EDUCATION LEVEL
The annual average main labor income was calculated at TL 87,451 for higher education graduates, TL 62,835 for secondary school and equivalent school graduates, TL 46,916 for those who did not finish secondary education, TL 34,755 for those who did not complete a school, and 25 thousand 406 TL for illiterate people.
Compared to the previous year, the largest increase in the average annual income from the main job occurred in individuals who did not finish school with 34.1 percent, and the smallest increase was in the illiterate with 28.1%.
INCOME HIGHEST IN SERVICE, LOWEST IN AGRICULTURE
When the income of the main companies is analyzed in terms of sectors; It was seen that the highest average annual income was in the service sector with 66,072 TL, and the lowest average annual income was in the agriculture sector with 46,106 TL.
Compared to the previous year; While the largest increase in the average annual income of the main business was observed in the agricultural sector with 41.3 percent, it was followed by the construction sector with 35.5 percent.
For its part, an increase of 32.1 percent was observed in the industrial sector and 29.1 percent in the service sector.
EMPLOYERS WITH HIGHER INCREASE, LOWER WAGES
The annual average main labor income was calculated at TL 220,482 for employers, TL 58,697 for self-employed workers, TL 56,899 for salaried employees and TL 25,632 for day laborers.
Compared to the previous year, the largest increase was for employers with 61.8%, the smallest increase for employees with 21.5%.
HERE ARE THE PROVINCES WITH THE MOST INCOME INEQUALITY
According to the latest research results, while the P80/P20 ratio is 7.9 in Turkey, the NUTS level 2 regions with the lowest value are found in TRB1 (Malatya, Elazığ, Bingöl, Tunceli) and TR81 ( Zonguldak, Karabük, Bartın) with 4.5, the TR42 region (Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Yalova) followed these regions with 4.9.
The NUTS 2 level regions with the highest P80/P20 ratio were TR10 (Istanbul) with 8.1, TRA2 (Ağrı, Kars, Iğdır, Ardahan) with 7.9 and TR52 (Konya, Karaman) with 7.4.
