TPAO: An in situ discovery of 1 billion barrels of oil was made

Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) announced that it has made a “major oil discovery” containing approximately 1 billion barrels of oil in situ at the Mártir Aybüke Yalçın-1 well in the Cudi-Gabar region.

In the written statement made by TPAO in the afternoon, the amount of oil from the field, which is the largest onshore exploration in Turkey, is estimated at approximately 1 billion barrels and the potential for further exploration in the Cudi- Gabar, which is a virgin region in terms of the oil exploration-production sector, is also high.”

GOAL TO MORE THAN DOUBLE PRODUCTION

TPAO Board Chairman Melih Bilgin said, “The test production of the martyr Aybüke Yalçın started well at the end of April and is currently ongoing. Our goal is to reach a daily production of 100 thousand barrels from the field and increase Turkey’s total production by more than double with the contribution of this field alone” and he continued as follows:

“In the second half of 2023, new exploratory wells will be drilled and the preliminary engineering agreement for the pipeline that will transport our oil in the field has also been signed.”

President Erdogan had recently said that the discovery that will reach 100,000 barrels of oil per day has been made.

According to the TPAO statement, the Martyr Aybüke Yalçın-1 exploration well is located 20 km northwest of Cizre, seven km northeast of the Şehit Esma Çevik field, which is the most producing oil field in Turkey with production of about 10 thousand barrels/day. In the well, the reservoir entered at the 2,609-meter level, drilling was completed to a depth of 2,771 meters, and resulted in the discovery of a 162-meter-thick reservoir containing 41 degree API gravity light oil in the carbonates of the Cretaceous.
