The involvement of Turkish banks for Russian exports is on the agenda

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that although Russia’s grain and fertilizer exports were not on the sanctions list, they could not be carried out due to payment and insurance problems to Western countries, and that a study to allow Turkish banks to intervene. This process.

Russia announced that it would not extend the Black Sea grain corridor agreement from mid-May unless the issues, including those mentioned by Çavuşoğlu, are not resolved.

UN TURKISH BANKS OFFER

Çavuşoğlu participated in the TV100 program last night and said: “Russia exports grains and fertilizers. We buy and re-export. But Russia cannot sell to other countries, to Western countries. The ships do not have access to the port, the insurance companies are making it difficult. Third, what payment will you make? You removed it from the SWIFT system,” he said.

Çavuşoğlu stated that there was a UN proposal for Turkish banks to step in to resolve the issue, continuing as follows:

“Finally, the UN secretary general made an offer: ‘Can Turkey’s banks help (in this matter)?’ We must also commit to our banks that they will not face sanctions or hardship.

Noting that the Turkish Banking Association (TBB) and the UN are working on this, Çavuşoğlu said that he also discussed this issue with his American and British counterparts. (Reuters)
