Rail workers in Germany to go on warning strike
The German Railway Workers’ Union (EVG) has called on railway workers to hold an 8-hour collective warning strike on April 21 to force employers to improve wages in the face of high inflation.
In an EVG statement, EVG has called for an eight-hour “warning strike” to include the intensity of Friday morning, due to the ongoing dispute between the German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) and its employees over wages. .
IT WILL AFFECT A GREAT PART OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
EVG claimed that the strike was “planned” to take place in the early hours of the morning and would allow passengers to go home later on Friday for the weekend.
A national union warning strike is expected to affect much of public transport on April 21. Delays and cancellations of train services in the country are expected as it will affect all train services operated by Deutsche Bahn in the country, including regional and long-distance passenger trains.
EVG board member Cosima Ingenschay said: “By calling a temporary warning strike early this time, we are sending a clear message that our actions are directed at businesses, not passengers.” she used the phrases.
Deutsche Bahn board member responsible for human resources, Martin Seiler, claimed that the work stoppage announced by EVG was completely unnecessary and accused EVG of acting “disproportionately” and “just chasing chaos.”
UNION REQUESTS
EVG rejected Deutsche Bahn’s wage increase offer, which included a 5 percent wage increase and a one-time payment of 2,500 euros. EVG is demanding a 12 percent increase in employee salaries, or at least 650 euros more per month.
Meanwhile, annual inflation, which was 8.7 percent in January and February, fell to 7.4 percent in March due to the drop in energy prices. Discussions on salary increases between DB and EVG are scheduled to resume on April 25.
On the other hand, the United Service Industry Union (Ver.di) announced that security personnel will carry out a warning strike at the airports of Hamburg, Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf on April 21 and 22.
In the warning strike led by Ver.di and EVG on March 27 in the transportation sector, most plane, train, and bus services came to a standstill, paralyzing transportation in the country. (AA)
