Home sales fell 21.4 percent on-year in March
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the statistics of house sales for March 2023.
Home sales in Turkey decreased by 21.4 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 105,476. Istanbul had the highest share of home sales with 18,166 houses and 17.2 percent.
Based on the number of sales, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 12,023 home sales and a 11.4 percent share, and Antalya with 6,120 sales and a 5.8 percent share. The provinces with the fewest number of houses sold were Ardahan with 23 houses, Hakkari with 54 houses and Bayburt with 69 houses, respectively.

DECREASED IN THE JANUARY-MARCH PERIOD
The purchase and sale of homes decreased 11.5 percent in the January-March period compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 283 thousand 215.
Sales of mortgaged houses in Turkey decreased by 16.5 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 25,262. The share of mortgaged sales in total house sales was 24.0 percent. The purchase and sale of mortgaged homes in the January-March period, on the other hand, decreased 13.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and went to 58,822.
8,811 from March mortgage sales; 18,164 of the mortgaged sales in the January-March period were first-hand sales.
Other home sales in Turkey decreased by 22.8 percent in March compared to the same month a year earlier and became 80,214. The share of other sales in total home sales was 76.0 percent. . Other home sales in the January-March period, for their part, decreased 10.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and stood at 224,393.
FIRST-HAND HOME SALE DECREASED 14.2 PERCENT
The number of first-hand house sales in Turkey decreased by 14.2 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 32,899. The share of first-hand house sales in sales total houses was 31.2 percent. In the January-March period, the sale of first-hand homes decreased by 11.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 83,907.
Second-hand house sales in Turkey decreased by 24.3 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 72,577. The share of second-hand house sales in total house sales was 68.8 percent. Second-hand home sales, for their part, decreased by 11.7 percent in the January-March period compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 199,308.
FOREIGNERS BUY MORE HOMES IN ANTALYA
The sale of homes to foreigners decreased by 38.7 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and went to 3,415. In March, the share of home sales to foreigners in total home sales was 3.2 percent.

Antalya ranked first in house sales to foreigners with 1,324 house sales. Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 1,090 sales and Mersin with 240 sales, respectively.
THE RUSSIANS HAD THE MOST HOUSES
In the January-March period, the sale of homes to foreigners decreased 23.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and went to 10,926.
In March, citizens of the Russian Federation bought 1,175 houses from Türkiye. Citizens of the Russian Federation were followed by Iran with 472 residences, Iraq with 165 residences, and Ukraine with 160 residences.
