Sharp decline in pre-holiday activity

40% contraction in bus passenger mobility

Mustafa Yıldırım, Chairman of the Federation of Bus Drivers (TOF) and Chairman of the TOBB Road Passenger Transport Sector Assembly, stated that his share in the sector is increasing day by day due to low air and rail fares; He reported that the bus transportation market is contracting day by day due to informal activities.

Yıldırım reminded that the midterm holidays in schools will start on Friday, April 14, including the Ramadan holiday.

Expressing that they expect travel for the holidays to intensify from tomorrow, Yıldırım said, “Compared to the past holidays, there is a 40 percent contraction in passenger mobility.”

EXPENSIVE, ELECTORAL PROCESS AND EFFICIENT INFORMALITY

“Economic reasons, on the one hand, and the electoral process, on the other, are considered the important reasons for the reduction of this mobility,” said Yıldırım, adding: “At the same time, while the participation of airlines and The railways in the sector are growing day by day due to low wages, the bus transport market has lost records due to insufficient inspections and sanctions, it is decreasing day by day due to the effect of piracy on transport activities outside of the country,” he said.

Noting that while the number of daily flights was around 22,000 on normal days in recent years, it has decreased to 14,000 in the recent period, Yıldırım said:

“There is a movement at the beginning of these holidays. Most companies can take additional trips. Despite the decrease in the number of trips, the Ministry has made the necessary arrangements for our companies that want to make additional trips so as not to experience victimization, as occurs every holiday.

‘NO NEW HIGH ENTRY PRICES’

Stating that they expected a movement of 5 to 6 million people during the 10-day vacation in the past, Yıldırım said, “There is a balance in travel, student movements, vacations, and those who will go to their hometown. There is no great movement during the days of the holiday, ”he said.

Noting that there is no new increase in ticket prices, Yıldırım said that the 30 percent discounts applied during the winter months can be applied during the holidays.

Noting that ticket prices may increase in the summer depending on oil prices, Yıldırım advised citizens planning to travel at that time to consider this as well. Yıldırım also warned against pirated tickets and stated that citizens should not travel without a ticket.

Yıldırım also stated that vehicles leaving from outside bus stations should not be respected, saying:

“We request that this and other similar situations be reported to the Call Center of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure at 444 27 07 and to the security forces. On the other hand, we recommend using public transport instead of private vehicles as much as possible during the holidays to reduce the risk of accidents.

Yıldırım added that it is important to buy round-trip tickets to avoid problems when returning from vacation. (AA)
