Eid hope in dried onion whose weight reaches 30 TL

Eid hope in dried onion whose weight reaches 30 TL

The onion, which sells for 18 lira per kilo in Istanbul, finds buyers in the market between 25 and 30 lira.

The hope of the traders, who say that the decrease in production causes an increase in prices, is after the Ramadan festival with the new harvest.

At the end of the month, the price expectation of dry onions is 10 lira, and the sale price expectation in the market and in the market is 15 lira.

FIRES HAVE OCCURRED, PRICE HAS INCREASED WHEN DEMAND IS HIGH

Numan Dayan, president of the Istanbul Halciler Association, said: “Because the weather was hot in the warehouses, the onions sprouted and were wasted. When demand was high, prices went up,” he said.

The onions, which were sold by the kilo in recent years, but in bags, began to burn pockets this year.

The onion, which was kept in warehouses unsuitable for climatic conditions, was wasted last year due to its very easy greening and rotting.

The acceptance of March and April as a transitional period for onions also caused prices to rise.

Currently, the absence of a new crop has been reflected in onion prices at 18 lira and 30 lira on the market.

‘AFTER THE HOLIDAYS, IT WILL RETURN TO 10-12 TL’

Yetkin Yılmaz, a market trader for onions that are harvested once or twice a year, said, “After the festival, prices go up to 10-12 lira. At the end of the holidays, its sale in the markets is between 15-17 lire. Onion saw a price that he had never seen in his life, ”he said.

A medium-sized onion, which is sold in the market at 25 lira per kilo, is equivalent to 5 lira and 25 kuruş. Market buyers say they have never bought onions under 5 kilos in the past.

THE OFFER WAS NOT ADAPTED TO THE DEMAND

Numan Dayan, President of the Istanbul Halciler Association, said: “I can say that we are having an unlucky year in terms of onions. We are also concerned that onions have reached these prices. When we look at the general fruit and vegetable market, I can say that it is one of the cheapest markets in Turkey. Onions and potatoes are crops that are harvested once or twice a year. Since it was hot in the warehouses, the onions sprouted. There were also fires. When the demand was high, the supply was not met, there was an increase in prices, ”he said.

SALES OF 1 TRUCK PER DAY, DOWN TO 1 TRUCK PER WEEK

Trader Fahrettin Keleş said: “There is a problem related to production. Due to the balance between supply and demand, the price immediately goes up,” he said.

Market trader Yetkin Yılmaz said: “The prices in the market are 18 to 20 lira. The reason is that the production was low this year, the weather conditions cooled down and the old onions are gone, almost non-existent. That’s why we can’t anticipate prices. “Costs are high, efficiency is low,” he said.

Stating that potato prices are lower than onions, Yılmaz said, “Currently, the price is around 7-8 lira for ten. Because the goods are limited, the producer charges high prices. We have shipping, packaging and billing costs. We just put it up, sell it at a profit of 15-20 cents. If we are selling 1 truck per day, now it has decreased to 1 truck per week.”

BOTH 20 LIRA AND LOW QUALITY

Omer Özata, one of the market traders, said: “Last year there were a lot of onions, there was no demand. It was like that because there was no October this year. Normally, the onions would not go to waste. It began to go to waste for 2-3 years. Right now, the price of onions is 18 lire. But the season is over, now we will start the new season. After the party, onions will fall because it is planted. It will be in the 7-10 lira band, nothing lower because there will be a loss. You will encourage people to sow.”

Adnan Ergin, who bought onions to sell at his grocery store, said: “The onions cost 20 lira and they are not good at all. I don’t know what will happen like that, I bought it hard for 20 lira. I sell it for 23 lire, but I don’t earn anything. The onion is over, new onions will come out, and it’s 25 lire. Now everyone has one. Who will buy onions for 30 lire? Onions are not good either. We can’t sell it, so I bought a sack,” he said.

‘ALL THOSE THAT REACT ARE USED AFTER’

Güray Akın, who sells the products they buy from the market, said: “As far as we know, it is said that there are no onions in the warehouses. The price increase is due to that. The price of the onion that we sell at 25 lire is between 21-22. We buy these coins and put them on top of 2-3 lira and try to sell them like that. Everyone is reacting, but everyone gets used to it, he will get used to it,” he said.

“Prices only increase with the harvest,” Akın said, adding: “An onion costs 5 lira 25 cents.”

Trader Talat Alakoç said: “This year’s harvest is late. The product inside was also not enough, it ended early. That’s it, no need to expand. Citizens have a legitimate reaction. Up to 2 weeks, prices go down, new crops appear, ”he said.

‘I WAS GAINING 5 KG, NOW 2 KG’

Sema Birgin, who shops at the market, said: “The market is already very expensive. Expensive since we come every week. 2 weeks ago, I bought enough items for an average of 1 week for 400 lira. With the last money I had left, I bought 1 kilo of onions, basic necessities like vegetables and cucumbers. Before we did not buy onions weighing less than 5 kilos, now I have put on 2 kilos.

A person who came to the market to buy said: “There are no purchases for less than 500 lira. I bought tomatoes and cucumbers,” she said. (DHA)
