Erdogan wants “Three” but… Here’s the cost of a baby

The severe economic crisis and the drop in purchasing power expose all segments of the developing age, the future of the country, especially babies and children, to an inadequate and unbalanced diet. In Turkey, where the minimum wage is 8,506 TL, the monthly cost of caring for a newborn is 6,645 TL.

The citizen, to whom President Tayyip Erdoğan recommends 3 children at every opportunity, asks “How will 3 babies be cared for?” with the hunger limit of 10,000 TL and monthly care expenses that are close to the minimum wage. The basic expenses of a baby such as clothes, food and diapers cost 6,645 TL.

For a citizen with a minimum wage, the average cost of caring for 3 children exceeds 19 thousand TL. When the high health expenses are added to this, the picture that arises makes it impossible to care for 3 children with the minimum wage and current economic conditions. According to TÜRK-İŞ data, the monthly food expenditure (hunger limit) necessary for a family of four to have a healthy, balanced and adequate diet has increased to TL 9,425. According to the data, the monthly food expenditure of children from 4 to 6 years old is TL 1,509. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, the rate of children who cannot eat food such as milk and cheese every day is 43%, while the number of children who can eat meat and chicken every day is only 12.7 %.

Those who have children are melancholic

Noting that people give up on having children due to baby care costs, CHP IMM Assemblyman Nadir Ataman said, “Monthly diaper expenses for a newborn baby are TL 1,200. While Tayyip Bey was saying that three boys should be born, the birth rate has halved at this point. You know how to say having 3 children, you don’t know the cost of the child. Those who have children are thinking about the costs of diapers, baby food, bottles and clothes, ”he said.
