Pointing out that the Ministry of Agriculture did not open the import doors in the first place and that after this decision, industrialists either stopped buying milk or lowered the price, Tevfik Keskin, President of the Central Union of Turkish Dairy Producers, said: “ They reduced the purchase prices by 1 TL. Those who produce powdered milk are trying to lower it even further. The market had already reached the 11 TL level. The markets also updated the prices accordingly. The production cost of 1 liter of raw milk is higher than 10 TL. Now it’s face to face when prices drop. Now they are putting pressure on the producers and lowering the prices, but the prices are not lowering in the market”, he said.

THE MANUFACTURER WILL SEND

Noting that markets update prices according to manufacturers in exchange for the producer selling the raw milk they produce at near cost, Keskin said the import gate for all milk and milk products must be closed. Noting that the industry could not recover otherwise, Keskin continued: “Once again producers will go out of business, this time animals will start to be slaughtered again. The industrialist is trying to kill two or three birds with one stone. This is a very dangerous situation. Powdered milk factories are usually located in Konya. They want to open the door to imports from here and spread them all over Türkiye. But this will be a severe blow to dairy farming. We have been saying since last July that it was not going to be like that, finally the prices skyrocketed. Now they are putting pressure on the producer again and lowering the prices, but the prices are not falling in the market”.

It does not recover before two years.

Sencer Solakoğlu, president of the All Dairy, Meat and Cattle Breeders’ Association (TÜSEDAD), said that Turkey cannot lower meat prices without finding a solution to the milk problem. Sencer Solakoğlu, who stated that the industrialist reduced the purchase price of raw milk by 1 TL in the last month, to 10.5 TL, said: “It is not very reasonable to expect Turkey to improve within 2 years with the current existence of cows.”
